Terms & Conditions
These Terms and Conditions govern your use of Western Cars Adur's private hire taxi services and website at westerncarsadur.co.uk. By making a booking or using our services, you agree to be bound by these terms. Please read them carefully. Western Cars Adur is a licensed private hire operator based in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex. If you have any questions, please contact us on 01273 473737.
1. Definitions
In these Terms and Conditions: 'We', 'Us' and 'Our' refers to Western Cars Adur; 'You' and 'Your' refers to the customer making or benefiting from a booking; 'Driver' refers to the licensed private hire driver assigned to your journey; 'Journey' means the agreed transportation service from the pick-up point to the destination; 'Booking' means a confirmed reservation for a Journey made via telephone, app, or any other accepted method.
2. Bookings and Confirmation
All bookings are subject to vehicle availability at the time of booking. A booking is confirmed only when you receive confirmation from us by telephone or electronic means. We reserve the right to decline any booking at our discretion without providing a reason. Prices quoted at the time of booking are estimates based on the expected route and may vary if the actual journey distance, route, or waiting time differs. Fixed-price bookings (where agreed in advance) will be honoured provided the journey details do not materially change. Pre-booked journeys should be made as far in advance as possible, particularly for airport transfers and early-morning pick-ups. We recommend confirming your booking the day before travel.
3. Fares and Payment
Fares are calculated by distance and time, or as a fixed price agreed at the time of booking. Waiting time charges apply after a reasonable grace period (typically 5 minutes for standard pick-ups and 30 minutes for airport arrivals after the scheduled landing time). Additional charges may apply for journeys outside our standard operating area, late-night travel, or carriage of large items of luggage. Payment is accepted by cash or card (where available). All fares include VAT where applicable. Receipts are available on request.
4. Cancellations and No-Shows
You may cancel a booking at any time by contacting us on 01273 473737. Cancellations made with reasonable notice (at least 1 hour before the scheduled pick-up time for standard journeys, and at least 24 hours for pre-booked airport transfers) will not incur a charge. Cancellations made with less than the required notice, or where the passenger fails to appear at the agreed pick-up point within a reasonable time, may incur a cancellation fee equivalent to the estimated fare or a minimum charge, at our discretion. We reserve the right to cancel a booking in exceptional circumstances (for example, vehicle breakdown, severe weather, or driver illness). In such cases, we will endeavour to provide alternative transport or a full refund of any pre-payment.
5. Passenger Conduct
Passengers are expected to behave in a respectful and lawful manner towards our drivers and vehicles at all times. We reserve the right to refuse carriage to any passenger who is, or appears to be, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, is behaving in an abusive, threatening, or disorderly manner, or poses a risk to the safety of the driver or other passengers. In such cases, the full fare for the journey may still be charged. Eating, drinking (other than water), and smoking are not permitted in our vehicles. Passengers are responsible for any damage caused to our vehicles by themselves or members of their party. The cost of cleaning or repairing any damage will be charged to the passenger.
6. Children and Child Seats
Under UK law, children must use an appropriate child car seat until they are 135 cm tall or 12 years old (whichever comes first). As a licensed private hire vehicle, we are exempt from this requirement under the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 when a suitable seat is not available; however, we strongly recommend that passengers travelling with young children provide their own appropriate child seat. Please inform us at the time of booking if you require a child seat and we will endeavour to accommodate your request, subject to availability.
7. Animals
Assistance dogs (including guide dogs and hearing dogs) are always welcome in our vehicles in accordance with the Equality Act 2010. Other animals may be carried at the driver's discretion and must be secured appropriately. Please inform us at the time of booking if you intend to travel with an animal.
8. Luggage
We will make every reasonable effort to accommodate your luggage. However, we cannot guarantee carriage of excessive or oversized items without prior arrangement. We accept no liability for loss of or damage to luggage or personal belongings carried in our vehicles, except where such loss or damage is caused by our negligence. If you leave property in one of our vehicles, please contact us as soon as possible on 01273 473737 and we will make reasonable efforts to return it to you.
9. Delays and Liability
We will make every reasonable effort to ensure your journey departs and arrives on time. However, we accept no liability for delays caused by traffic congestion, road closures, adverse weather conditions, accidents, or any other circumstances beyond our reasonable control. We strongly recommend that passengers allow sufficient time when travelling to airports, railway stations, or other transport hubs, and that appropriate travel insurance is obtained for international journeys. Our liability to you in connection with any journey is limited to the fare paid for that journey, except in cases of death or personal injury caused by our negligence, where liability is not limited.
10. Complaints
If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of our service, please contact us as soon as possible on 01273 473737 or by writing to us at Basepoint - Shoreham, Little High Street, Shoreham-by-Sea, BN43 5EG. We will acknowledge your complaint promptly and aim to resolve it within 14 days. If your complaint relates to the conduct of a licensed driver, you may also contact West Sussex County Council's licensing authority.
11. Governing Law
These Terms and Conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising under or in connection with these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
12. Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to update or amend these Terms and Conditions at any time. The current version will always be available on our website at westerncarsadur.co.uk/terms-and-conditions. Continued use of our services following any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms. These terms were last updated in September 2026.
